ABOUT THE USB STILL CAMERA DRIVER

Some notes on the behavior of our driver in Classic mode

First, you need to understand that Classic mode is an emulation of Mac OS 9 in Mac OS X and is not the same as booting your machine in 9.

The behavior of our driver in Classic mode will depend on your camera.

If your camera came with Mac OS 8-9 support and you have it configured to download images on connect, you will need to disable the Control Panel using Extension Manager. It's OK to leave the Extension itself enabled.

If your camera did not come with Mac OS 8-9 support, you will see a dialog box in Classic mode telling you that software needed for the USB device is not available and offering to look on the Internet. Click Cancel.

About image size and deleting objects

In Apple's Image Capture Application, the file sizes displayed in the "Download Some" dialog represent the file size in the camera. They are often larger once they land on your hard drive.

Deletion capabilities for many cameras are somewhat limited. You have to start with the last object and you cannot skip. So, you can delete all objects or the last object or the last four objects, but you cannot delete the first four (nothing will be deleted) or the first and last only (you'll end up deleting only the last).

When will you support video on "dual mode" cameras?

We're actively working on that. Our mailing lists will be used to announce support for additional cameras.

How do I download video from my dual mode camera ?

If you use the sound or video features of your dual mode camera, we recommend using Image Capture to download them. Apple's iPhoto only downloads still images. It will ignore anything else.

How do I find the UniqueID to register the driver?

Stillcam users: (up to version 1.0.3) Click the Enter Serial Number button when the camera is connected. (v. 1.0.3 and higher) Click the Register button when the camera is connected.

How do I remove your driver?

You don't need to remove the driver to upgrade to new versions. But if you do want to remove it for some reason, a beta version of our Uninstaller is available at the following locations:

IOXperts Uninstaller 1.0b3 (HTTP, fastest)

IOXperts Uninstaller 1.0b3 (FTP)

Please report any problems you find.

How do I remove your driver by hand?

If you prefer to remove the driver by hand, you need to launch the terminal application, which is located in /Applications/Utilities. Then type the following command:

sudo rm -r "/System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/IOXperts*"

Be extremely careful to type the command exactly as it appears. Also note that you must have administrative privileges.

ABOUT INSTALLATION AND REGISTRATION

I'm having trouble with a demo version. Will registering fix it?

No! Demo versions are fully functional except for the time limit. We want you to be sure the driver is working well for you before you register. So, if you have trouble, read through the FAQs and then file a support request if you don't find what you need.

When will you support my USB Still camera?

There is no "universal" USB driver model, so we will be developing distinct drivers as we go along. How quickly we can add support for any given camera depends in no particular order on how easy it is to support, how popular it is, and whether we have the technical information we need. Our mailing lists will be used to announce support for additional cameras.

You can help us by lobbying your camera manufacturer to hire us or at least send us some samples and their technical specifications. We gladly sign non-disclosure agreements.

I've registered your driver, so why am I still seeing dialog boxes asking me to purchase/register?

Usually, this is actually your video application asking you to purchase, not our driver.

Why isn't my serial number valid on another computer?

The serial number is probably tied to the computer you register on. So be sure to register the driver on the machine you intend to use.

For cameras with unique identifiers (Philips and all FireWire cameras), the serial number is tied to the camera. Cameras without unique identifiers get a serial number that is tied to a single computer.

Need to transfer your camera to another computer? File a serial number request along with the Unique ID of your computer.

How do I find the UniqueID to register the driver ?

Webcam users: you'll find the ID on the last screen of the installer. You can also click the Register button in the 30-minute dialog.
